Program Overview

Whether it’s within our families, in our romantic relationships, with our kids, at work, or even with friends, many of us wish to break free from unfulfilling dynamics that keep recurring, despite our efforts to improve the situation. Disheartened, we might tend to trivialize our discontent and tell ourselves “C’est la vie”, or “We just have to deal with it”, like everyone else.

Transforming our interpersonal dynamics requires a profound shift in our way of being, both within ourselves and with each other. This change requires effort and practice, just like learning a new sport, a new musical instrument or a new language.

The most effective way to learn a new language is to live in a country where it is spoken. In this immersive context, we learn more than just theoretical knowledge, syntax and grammar; this type of experiential learning allows us to integrate the customs, mentality and culture of the country’s inhabitants, which is a far richer experience.

In a similar way, the Authentic Dialogue Immersion Program offers the optimal conditions for learning and growth: an evolutionary journey through seven workshops, Dialogue Coaching Sessions, and practice sessions with your peers.

Three essential skills

Throughout the program, you will develop three fundamental skills of Authentic Dialogue:

  • Authentic expression : expressing your thoughts and feelings clearly and honestly, increasing the chances of being heard.
  • Empathic listening : hearing what the other is expressing through their words and gestures, so as to truly understand what they are experiencing.
  • Self-empathy : exploring one’s own experience in order to make sense of it and thus make conscious choices in alignment with one’s values.

7 Experiential Workshops

(Prerequisite: Authentic Dialogue Basics or equivalent introductory level NVC training)

1 - Confidence: Believe in Yourself | September

Training summary

The actions and words of others can sometimes rattle us, especially if they touch on vulnerable or sensitive areas. In turn, we may experience self-doubt or try to reinforce, if not impose, a particular image of ourselves so as not to lose face. In either case, the overall communication will prove to be unfulfilling.

The development of self-esteem is essential to be able to assert ourselves and remain open to those with whom we are interacting. During this workshop, you will learn how to cultivate a healthy self-esteem, in order to be more at ease when communicating with others. You will develop greater capacity to hear irritating messages without “taking it personally”. Also, as you get to know yourself more deeply, you will gain access to more authenticity and the courage to venture outside your comfort zone.

Objectives

By the end of this training, you will have the tools to:

  • Get in touch with your inner world, welcoming your experience.
  • Recognize your self-worth and make better choices.
  • Recognize the qualities that reside within you.

2 - Empathy: The Power of Listening | October

Training Overview

In many situations, we have the impression that we are not being fully understood in our experience. When our needs for listening and consideration are not met, we feel alone, disconnected and frustrated. The other with whom we are experiencing this situation is likely to feel similarly.

Empathic listening opens up possibilities to free us from this impasse. It provides a more rewarding way of communicating, where needs for listening and consideration are fulfilled, both for oneself and for the other.

In this workshop, you will explore the practice of empathic listening: embodying curiosity without judgment about another’s world. This mode of listening offers the necessary clarity to unwind challenging situations, to diffuse tensions, and to foster more flow and fulfillment.

Objectives

By the end of this training, you will have the tools to:

  • Recognize and transform reactivity to whatever it is you hear,
  • Develop a sense of caring curiosity, even when faced with difficult-to-hear messages,
  • Create new listening habits that enhance and strengthen connection.

3 - Coherence: Experience Choice Without Guilt | December

Training summary

Phrases such as “I don’t have a choice”, “I should”, “I must”, and “I have to” can keep us feeling stuck and make us lose sight of our deeper motivations. In a world of obligations, cut off from the energy of life, we do things half-heartedly and struggle to follow our dreams and ambitions.

This workshop will allow you to connect and re-engage with what is truly important to you. By reacquainting yourself with your core values and needs, you will find new motivation to act in coherence with your choices, regaining a sense of purpose and aliveness in your life.

By the end of this training, you will have the tools to:

  • Make the leap from conformity to the courage to be yourself.
  • Transform “I should” and “I have to” into empowered, coherent choices
  • Bring a greater sense of meaning to your life and the decisions you make.

4 - Power: Assert Yourself with Power | January

Training Overview

Regardless of the role we are in – be it boss, employee, co-worker, professional, client, parent, child – whether in love or in friendship, it can be difficult to assert ourselves, to ask for something, or to say no. The fear of jeopardizing our relationships sometimes prevents us from being fully ourselves.

In this workshop, you will develop the ability to powerfully express yourself, whilst considering the other, and enriching the relationship. You will discover the strength that comes from living in dynamic equilibrium with your desires, as well as those of others. Having clarity about what is important to you will allow you to make compelling requests and develop genuine/ meaningful collaborations.

Objectives

By the end of this training, you will have the necessary tools to :

  • Say “no” and hear “no” without breaking the relationship.
  • Transform expectations and demands into clear and inspiring requests.
  • Realize your power and use it with awareness and benevolence.

5 - Intensity: Transforming Anger | March

Training summary

Although we may fear our own anger and its destructive potential, it acts as an exceptional warning signal. If we don’t translate its message, it can lead to real and regrettable violence. However, becoming familiar with anger (rather than repressing it), allows us to access the untapped energy and profound sense of fulfillment it holds.

On the other hand, we may be frequently disappointed in how we react to the anger of others. Our habitual strategies, rather than contributing to greater understanding, often prove detrimental and can make the situation worse.

In this workshop, you will learn how to deal constructively with anger by overcoming your defensive reactions, whether counterattack or emergency retreat. You will increase your ability to make conscious choices, even in the midst of emotional intensity, be it yours or someone else’s. You will gain practical tools that you can apply to co-create mutually fulfilling solutions.

Objectives

By the end of this training, you will have the tools to:

  • Come back to centre, after a surge of anger.
  • Express yourself with intensity, in a responsible manner.
  • Maintain your composure in the face of others’ anger.

6 - Gratitude: See the beauty | April

Training summary

Even in the absence of real threat, our primal brain seeks to keep us safe from danger by targeting problems. As a result, we tend to focus our attention on the negative aspects of our experience and overlook the elements that contribute to our well-being. The world then appears dull and bleak, almost as though we were on auto pilot. To take charge of our destiny, a shift in mindset is essential, as is the embrace of all that is positive in our lives. Gratitude is a practice that can be learned and cultivated.

In this workshop, you will learn how to recognize the things you truly appreciate, how to express genuine gratitude, and also how to receive it. The practice of gratitude reconnects us to a sense of confidence, joy and meaning. This training offers you tangible ways to experience more gratitude, for a vibrant life rich in purpose.

Objectives

By the end of this training, you will have the tools to:

  • Bring yourself back into the present moment.
  • Express and receive appreciation.
  • Develop a gratitude practice and experience more joy.

7 - Stillness: Ease your Mind | June

Training summary

We are fortunate to have a mind that analyzes our experiences and comes to conclusions, which we then use to seek out pleasure and avoid suffering. These conclusions can take the form of beliefs that draw us away from our freedom and vitality. Disconnected from that which is most important to us, we become subject to the very things we are trying to avoid: stress and suffering.

This workshop opens the door to explore your habitual reactions and the beliefs that shape your thoughts, words and actions. This deeper understanding of yourself will foster a peace of mind, enabling you to make free and conscious choices, leading to rich and authentic relationships.

Objectives

By the end of this training, you will have the tools to:

  • Compassionately inquire into your reactions and thinking habits
  • Transform your limiting beliefs.
  • Welcome what is true for you.
